WHAT TYPE OF DONATIONS WOULD REALLY HELP OUR CAUSE THE MOST ?
1. SALEABLE ITEMS
People who like what we do give us nice things to sell, would be a great description. Unfortunately though, probably the worst part of our shops volunteers job is when they have to tell people, im sorry we cant accept your donations, and people sometimes get upset.
A volunteer might say, “I’m sorry but its not in saleable condition”, or, “I’m sorry but those items often take too long to sell”, or maybe, “I’m sorry but as policy we don’t accept those items”.
And often volunteers receive replies of, “but what am I supposed to do with it all now ?”, or, “but its too good to chuck away”, or sometimes, “but I’m giving it to you for free”.
So we are always looking for ways to communicate with the public of how this system is supposed to work, from our view, that actually helps our cause without costing us more time than money by accepting the free items. Because unfortunately, to answer some of the comments above, we have to pay for every item to be taken away that doesn’t sell, and we cant afford our growing costs to be any greater, so that means that even if things are given for free, its only a cost to our cause if we don’t have confidence of selling it quickly.
Our shop is constantly full, so really the items we are looking for are often things that we can see sense in making space for, that it makes sense for us to cull something that is maybe a lesser item than what it could be replaced with.
DOG PARAFONALIA OR DOG THEMED DONATIONS, are always good, as long as its in saleable condition, clean and not damaged, its highly unlikely we would turn away any of these items.
CRAFT MATERIALS, are always good, we have a large craft department, and its quite popular.
CLOTHES, SHOES, BAGS, AND ACCESSOERIES, we have a great clothes room, larger than most charity shops, all good quality, as long as these items are clean and in wearable condition, which also means items not clothes that obviously require ironing, then its highly likely they will be accepted.
JEWERLRY, costume jewerlry or better, again also highly likely to be accepted.
All other items, again need to be in a clean and undamaged condition, but we would need to see them first before we could say if we can accept them or not. And please note, we only can accommodate small to medium furniture.
2. MONETARY DONATIONS
These of course are less common, but of course are highly appreciated when we receive them. We are a small operation, with a large site to be able to do all the things we offer, we work hard every day to help local dogs, and there’s a never ending supply of dogs in need.
so for the few who can afford, who like our unique concept of what we do, we have a donate button especially for that option. And thank you in advance to anyone who can show us support that way.
